Handset Manufacturer

The handset market moves quickly, and customers are always looking for the new things – be it faster data, a nicer interface or a better camera. If a manufacturer is to keep market share they must continually develop and innovate, or they will quickly disappear. However the manufacturer must strike a balance in their developments; a balance between the new features the customers are calling for and the features the networks want to promote.

Customers tend to notice headline innovations, a new camera, while the network are more interested in the technical innovation which will generate more revenue for them. A camera phone might generate a  small amount of revenue when sending a picture across the network to a friend, but a good interface and data capability will allow the user to surf the web, significantly increasing the network’s average revenue per user.

To allow handset manufacturers to introduce as many new technologies as possible, for both themselves and the network, they will use specialist partners for non-core activities. Introducing specialist partners changes the way the handset manufacturer develops and tests, with less developmental testing but more acceptance and integration testing. When Nokia develops its own components it knows the development and testing processes followed, and therefore the level of reliance which can be placed upon it. To protect their reputation and brand, they will have to be 100% sure that their specialist partner’s product is as reliable. For over 10 years we have focused on developing market leading acceptance and interoperability test solutions. Help our customers acceptance test, reducing the risks of damage to their valuable brand.
